Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy

Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy (UGS) is a technique which has been used since the late 1980s to treat larger varicose veins beneath the skin surface. Dr McMaster has been using ultrasound guided sclerotherapy in Brisbane since 2004 and has undergone extensive training in this technique with leading doctors throughout Australasia.

In UGS, an ultrasound examination is performed and used to guide injections into veins that have previously only been able to be treated by surgical removal. UGS is truly a "walk in, walk out" treatment with most treatments taking only 30 minutes to complete.

UGS is ideal for treating varicose veins which have developed following surgical stripping. It is also often used for varicose veins which are being treated for the first time.

For most people, several treatment sessions are required for optimal results, and the veins slowly disappear over a period of months.

Ultrasound guided sclerotherapy treatments are eligible for medicare subsidy.
